Teaching # 1 – Prayer and Intercession
To All Pastors, Greetings in the Name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ,
It is my desire to bring to you each month or so a brief teaching on “Prayer and Intercession –Taking Your City for Christ!” This message is not really intended to imply that I know any more than anyone else on this subject, rather consider it an exhortation, even an encouragement to continue the work of intense intercession in your own cities. If you are not familiar with the vision of OCC/Mexico, please read carefully on this web site, “Who We Are,” Our Purpose” and “Our Mission.”
Before we even begin the monumental task of “taking our cities for Christ,” we must first submit ourselves to the searchlight of the Holy Spirit, and allow Him to cleanse us in preparation for the battle. We dare not be encumbered by personal sin, for surely the enemy of our soul will not only find it, he will use it to stop us dead in our tracks! Please, PLEASE—take a time set aside for the purpose of prayer and personal repentance. Remember, “The effectual fervent prayer of a RIGHTEOUS man availeth much!” Without “clean hands and a pure heart,” our prayers will probably go unanswered, at which time we will be “murmuring and complaining as to why God is not doing anything!!” Let us enter into this assignment without any personal hindrances.
Secondly, it is wise to make a list of any particular sins of the city. For example: graft or corruption in the government, unfair treatment of the poor, etc. etc. You all know your own cities and the particular sins which may be unique to them. First identify these sins and then begin to pray specifically about them, remembering that YOU have been given dominion over all things! Gen. 1:26 says: And God said, ‘Let us make man in our image after our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over ALL THE EARTH………”
Thirdly, which principalities and powers are working over the city that you need to identify, break down and cast out? Perhaps there has been a spirit of witchcraft on that land long before it was even a city! It is important to do a little bit of research and find out the history of the region. Who settled your region? What gods did they worship? There may be manifestations of those ancient evil spirits which remain in operation yet today! For this reason, when I take a prayer team to all of the different cities, I learn as much as I am able to about the history of the area before arriving. Also we always visit the Government buildings which usually have exquisite mural depictions of the cities’ history, which is very helpful in our prayer focus. It would be good to here again make a list of these spiritual powers over your cities and share it with all those who are praying, in order to all be “on the same page!”
“Being on the same page” will be the subject of the next teaching for the purpose of exhortation.
Be encouraged! You are not alone. Many here in the United Stares, as well as pastors all over Mexico are praying for you as you pray.
Remember to unite with the other pastors in your city and Pray Together!!
Love in Christ,
Pastor Carol
